Jubilee Camp - June 2012
Over the Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend a group of 5 scouts and 5 cubs from the group; along with 3 leaders and a visiting leader from Hamsey Green Surrey who was doing the Residential section of his Queen's Scout and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award; camped at Hope Hill Scout Campsite along with 200 other members of Gravesham District. Over the bank holiday they participated in archery, shooting, climbing, football, giant inflatable games, a birds of prey demonstration, pioneering and a campfire. On the Sunday the whole District joined together for the Big Lunch, part of the national Jubilee celebrations around the country where a picnic lunch was shared by 240 members of the Scouting Family in 3 large marquees accompanied by constant rain. The camp culminated with the construction of a set of beacons, growing in size until the final district beacon raised above the climbing tower was lit at 10:20pm and remained burning to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee until the following morning when it was extinguished once all the camp had left to go home.
